Marion, Ind. - Despite a game-high 22 points from senior forward Rob Broughton (Elizabethtown, Ky./Gannon University), the Saint Xavier University men's basketball team dropped its season opener to No. 14 ranked Indiana Wesleyan University (Ind.), 88-61, Saturday afternoon at Luckey Arena in Marion, Ind. The Cougars (0-1 overall) had difficulty getting shots to fall Saturday hitting just 34 percent (23-for-68) from the field, while the Wildcats hit a blistering 55 percent (33-for-60) of its total shot attempts in the game.

In addition to Broughton, junior point guard Julian Scott (Country Club Hills, Ill./Hillcrest) also had an impressive opener finishing with 12 points and game-high 12 rebounds. Senior guard Paris Davis (Maywood, Ill./St. Joseph) scored in double figures as well for the Cougars with 11 points. Indiana Wesleyan had four players post double figures in scoring in Saturday's victory led by senior guard Antonio Murrell, who finished with 19 points. SXU trailed, 47-33, at the half and scored just 28 points after the break hitting just 32 percent (12-for-38) of its second-half shots. The Wildcats also won the rebounding battle collecting 44 boards to the Cougars' 32.

Saint Xavier (0-1 overall) hosts its home opener on Tuesday, November 4, against Calumet College of St. Joseph (Ind.). The game is scheduled for a 5 p.m. start at the Shannon Center in Chicago.
