CHICAGO - With 6:14 to play in regulation, Saint Xavier University freshman forward Larissa Jondle (Lincoln, Neb./Saint Pius X) scored a goal which gave the No. 4 seeded Cougars a 2-1 victory over No. 5 seed Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) in the quarterfinals of the 2008 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Women's Soccer Tournament Saturday afternoon at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field in Chicago. Freshman midfielder Nancy Schueth (Lincoln, Neb./Saint Pius X) recorded the assist on the game-winning goal, which will send SXU to the semifinals to face No. 1 seed and No. 8 ranked Trinity Christian College (Ill.). After a scoreless first half, sophomore forward Kelly Steinhaus (Lemont, Ill./Lemont) put Saint Xavier ahead, 1-0, just over a minute into the second half on an unassisted goal after the ball was batted around the front of the goal following a corner kick. The Scarlet Hawks tied the game, 1-1, in the game's 62nd minute when freshman midfielder Kay Durbin scored on an unassisted goal. That set the stage for Jondle's game-winning goal in the waning minutes of play. Senior keeper Nikki Grant (Lemont, Ill./Lemont) finished with one save in goal for the Cougars. SXU finished the game with 10 shots-on-goal compared to just two by IIT. Saint Xavier (8-9-1 overall) now advances to the semifinals of the 2008 CCAC Women's Soccer Tournament and will face No. 1 seed and No. 8 ranked Trinity Christian College. The game will be hosted by Trinity Christian at Moraine Valley Community College on Wednesday, November 5. Game time has yet to be determined.
