Palos Heights, Ill. - Despite seven kills by senior outside hitter Mallory Winkler (Chicago, Ill./Queen of Peace), Saint Xavier University fell to Saint Ambrose University (Iowa) in three straight games (17-25, 17-25, and 13-25) Thursday night in non-conference NAIA volleyball action at Palos Courts in Palos Heights, Ill. The Cougars (12-31 overall) have posted just one victory over their last 10 matches and will look to reverse their momentum next Tuesday in their conference and regular season finale against rival University of St. Francis (Ill.).

In addition to Winkler, senior middle blocker Chelsey Guay (Escanaba, Mich./Escanaba) finished with five kills for SXU, while senior right side Laura Gullickson (Bourbonnais, Ill./Bishop McNamara) and freshman middle blocker Kim Scudder (Elmhurst, Ill./York) each tallied four kills. Freshman Ashley August (LaGrange Park, Ill./Lyons Township) had 12 set assists for the Cougars, while senior libero Jenna Guide (Orland Park, Ill./Sandburg) chipped in 12 digs on defense.

Saint Xavier (12-31 overall) takes the weekend off before wrapping up its Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) regular season slate at home against St. Francis (Ill.) on Tuesday, November 4. The "Senior/Parents Night" match is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. start at the Shannon Center in Chicago.
