Mount Vernon, Ohio - With senior midfielder Jen Belmonte (Darien, Ill./Hinsdale South) and sophomore forward Lissa Coby (Lake Villa, Ill./Grant Community) earning all-tournament honors, the No. 15 ranked Saint Xavier University women's soccer team split its two games this weekend in the Mount Vernon Nazarene University Tournament in Mount Vernon, Ohio. The Cougars (3-1-1 overall) dropped their first game, 5-3, Friday to host Mount Vernon Nazarene before coming back on Saturday to pick up a 1-0 victory over Malone College (Ohio).

In Friday's game with Mount Vernon, SXU scored all three of its goals in the second half, but could not slow down the tough Mount Vernon offense. Belmonte recorded Saint Xavier's first goal in the game's 56th minute off an assist from freshman midfielder Breanna Cashel (Arnold, Mo./St. Pius X). Coby scored the next goal for SXU in the 84th minute on a Belmonte assist and freshman forward Morgan Campbell (Delaware, Ohio/Delaware Hayes) tacked on another goal for the Cougars just two minutes later for Saint Xavier's third and final goal off a Cashel assist. Mount Vernon scored two goals in the first half and added three more after halftime to seal the victory.

Saint Xavier got another goal from Coby in its second game of the tourney Saturday against Malone College (Ohio) and it proved to be all the Cougars needed defeating the Pioneers, 1-0. In addition, senior goalkeeper Melissa Painter (Elk Grove, Calif./William Penn University) earned her second shutout of the season.

SXU (3-1-1 overall) returns home to open its 2005 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) schedule on Wednesday, September 14, facing Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.) at SXU Stadium in Chicago. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
