Bourbonnais, Ill. - Despite an unassisted goal by freshman defender Padraig O'Connor (Killarney Co. Kerry, Ireland/St. Brendans), the Saint Xavier University men's soccer team fell to Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.), 4-1, in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) action Saturday afternoon in Bourbonnais, Ill. The game marked the end of the regular season for both teams. With the loss, the Cougars failed to earn a berth in next week's CCAC Men's Soccer Tournament and end their season with an overall record of 6-12.

ONU took an early 1-0 lead when sophomore defender Marcio Das Neves scored on a penalty kick goal in the 15th minute of play. The Tigers struck again in the 29th minute when senior midfielder Chris Walker scored on a cross from sophomore forward Billy Jackson. Junior midfielder Jose Villa gave Olivet Nazarene a 3-0 halftime advantage when he notched a goal in the 42nd minute off an assist from senior midfielder Chris Walker. In the 75th minute, junior midfielder Josh Ayers scored the fourth unanswered goal for the Tigers on an unassisted shot. O'Connor scored the lone goal for SXU in the 88th minute off a rebound on a save attempt by the Olivet keeper. Junior goalkeeper Ian Pickett (Mokena, Ill./Providence Catholic) played the whole game in goal for the Cougars and finished with four saves.

Saint Xavier ends its 2008 campaign with a 6-12 overall record. The Cougars finished seventh overall in the CCAC standings with a 4-5 mark just missing an opportunity to participate in the six-team 2008 CCAC Men's Soccer Tournament.
