CHICAGO - Behind two goals and an assist from junior midfielder Melchor Castro (Chicago, Ill./Saint Patrick), the Saint Xavier University men's soccer team ended its six-game losing streak with an impressive 4-0 victory over Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) foe Trinity Christian College (Ill.) Tuesday night at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field in Chicago. With the win, the Cougars improve to 6-11 overall this season and 4-4 in the conference standings, while the Trolls fall to 10-5-1 on the year and now sit at 4-4 as well in the CCAC.

Castro scored SXU's first two goals of the game Tuesday on free kick attempts. The first came from around 35 yards out in the 18th minute of the game sailing over the outstretched hand of TCC senior keeper Jamie Prins. Castro struck again just over five minutes later when his next free kick attempt found the back of the net from 20 yards away. Leading 2-0 at halftime, the Cougars built on their lead early in the second half when Castro found freshman midfielder Al Palar (Joliet, Ill./Plainfield Central) open in front of the goal off a corner kick in the game's 48th minute.

The final goal for SXU came in the 82nd minute when freshman midfielder Cody Culver (Roscoe, Ill./Harlem) stole the ball from a Trinity Christian defender and punched it in through the left side of the goal to build a 4-0 advantage. Junior Ian Pickett (Mokena, Ill./Providence Catholic) and senior James Kline (Canton, Ohio/Perry) each saw time in goal for SXU and finished with a save apiece.

Saint Xavier (6-11 overall/4-4 CCAC) wraps up its 2008 regular season on Saturday, October 25, with a CCAC road game against Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.). The game is scheduled for a 3 p.m. start in Bourbonnais, Ill.
