Findlay, Ohio - Saint Xavier University junior inside linebacker Mike Lally (Oak Lawn, Ill./St. Rita) led a stout Cougar defensive effort in a 35-7 victory over Urbana University (Ohio) this past weekend and was named Mid-States Football Association (MSFA) Mideast League Defensive Player of the Week when the league released the honor early Monday afternoon. Lally finished Saturday's contest with a game-high 14 total tackles, including seven solo stops. He also posted four tackles for losses totaling 47 yards, including 2.5 sacks for 22 yards.

It was the first time in 2008 that Saint Xavier has garnered the league's weekly defensive award. However, it is the sixth time this season the Cougars have had a MSFA Player of the Week in any category with SXU garnering four of the seven special teams award given out thus far and one each of the offensive and defensive honors.

Saint Xavier (5-2 overall/2-0 MSFA) continues its MSFA Mideast League slate on Saturday, October 25, with a night game against Marian College (Ind.). The game is scheduled for a 6 p.m. start at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field in Chicago.
