Men's Soccer - Wed, Oct. 15, 2008
CHICAGO - Despite six saves by junior goalkeeper Ian Pickett (Mokena, Ill./Providence Catholic), the Saint Xavier University men's soccer team could not avoid its fifth straight loss Wednesday night falling to visiting Cardinal Stritch University (Wis.), 2-0, in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) play at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field in Chicago. The Cougars (5-10 overall/3-3 CCAC) trailed, 1-0, a majority of the game and had chances to tie things up finishing with five shots-on-goal, but an insurance goal by the Wolves with just under 10 minutes remaining in regulation seemed to stifle a late rally attempt.

Freshman forward Ben Allen put Cardinal Stritch up, 1-0, in the game's 28th minute when he placed a header into the back of the net off a cross from junior defender Paul Dugdale. Trailing 1-0 at the half, SXU missed opportunities to tie the game early in the second half. With 80:47 on the clock, sophomore forward Jamie Robertson cut back toward the front of the goal from the left side and put his shot past Pickett to take the 2-0 lead. Senior midfielder Pat Rich was credited with the assist on the Robertson goal.

Saint Xavier (5-10 overall/3-3 CCAC) continues conference play on Saturday, October 18, with a home game against Trinity International University (Ill.). The game is scheduled for a 1:30 p.m. start at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field.
