Kenosha, Wis. - Paced by a 24th place individual finish by freshman Alyssa Driscoll (Marion, Iowa/Xavier), the No. 18 ranked Saint Xavier University women's cross country team finished in sixth place out of 31 collegiate teams Saturday at the 2008 Lucian Rosa Invitational hosted by University of Wisconsin-Parkside (Wis.) at the Wayne E. Dannehy Cross Country Course in Kenosha, Wis. Driscoll finished the 5K event (5,000 meters) with a season-best time of 19:10 en route to her 24th place finish. It is the second time this season that the freshman has led the SXU squad across the finish line.
Finishing second for Saint Xavier Saturday was junior Amy Poull (Oak Forest, Ill./Oak Forest) in 38th place overall with a time of 19:33. Sophomore Jade Braden (Rocky River, Ohio/Rocky River) and freshman Jackie Ott (Island Lake, Ill./Marian Catholic Central) finished neck-and-neck in 49th and 50th place with times of 19:45 and 19:46, respectively. Junior Lauren Dentzman (Lemont, Ill./Lemont) wrapped up the top five for the Cougars in 54th place at 19:51. All five top finishers for SXU garnered times within a 41-second span, which demonstrates the strength of the pack.
"We will take this weekend off in preparation for the NAIA Great Lakes Invitational at Aquinas College in two weeks," said SXU women's cross country/track coach Lisa Ebel. "This meet will pit us against some of the NAIA's best competition and will give us a really good feel of how we stack up in the national rankings. I feel this team is very strong right now and progressing nicely toward achieving all the goals we set forth at the beginning of the year."
Saint Xavier heads to Grand Rapids, Mich., on Saturday, October 25, to take part in the NAIA Great Lakes Invitational hosted by Aquinas College (Mich.). The women's race is scheduled for a 12 p.m. (eastern) start.Click here for results from the Lucian Rosa Invitational
