CHICAGO - Despite seven kills and two solo blocks from freshman middle blocker Kim Scudder (Elmhurst, Ill./York), the Saint Xavier University volleyball team struggled to get into a rhythm offensively and fell in three straight games 17-25, 20-25, and 17-25 to Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) rival Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) Tuesday night at the Shannon Center in Chicago. The Cougars fall to 10-22 overall and 6-2 in the conference standings, while the Scarlet Hawks improve to 14-14 on the season and 6-1 in CCAC play.

Senior middle blocker Chelsey Guay (Escanaba, Mich./Escanaba) was also strong offensively for SXU Tuesday finishing the match with eight kills, while senior libero Jenna Guide (Orland Park, Ill./Sandburg) tallied seven digs defensively. Freshman setter Ashley August (LaGrange Park, Ill./Lyons Township) helped set up the offense for the Cougars recording 17 assists. Senior outside hitter Carlie Douglas led Illinois Tech offensively finishing with match-highs of 11 kills and four service aces.

Saint Xavier (10-22 overall/6-2 CCAC) heads to Joliet, Ill., this weekend to take part in the two-day University of St. Francis (Ill.) Big Guns Classic. The Cougars kick off the event with a 2 p.m. match Friday against Cardinal Stritch University (Wis.).
