Men's Soccer - Sat, Oct. 11, 2008
St. Augustine, Fla. - An own goal in the 27th minute of regulation provided the game's only scoring as the Saint Xavier University men's soccer team suffered a 1-0 loss to St. Thomas University (Fla.) Saturday afternoon at Flagler College in St. Augustine, Fla. The own goal occurred when one of the Cougar defenders inadvertently knocked the ball past SXU junior goalkeeper Ian Pickett (Mokena, Ill./Providence Catholic) to post a score for the opposing team. With the loss, the Cougars fall to 5-9 on the season and have dropped four straight games with their last victory coming on October 1 in a 2-1 win over Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) rival University of St. Francis (Ill.).

Pickett played well for Saint Xavier finishing the game with three saves. SXU had just one shot-on-goal Saturday coming from senior midfielder Agustin Herrera (Chicago Heights, Ill./Bloom) early in the second half. The Cougar defense played strong limiting St. Thomas to just three shots-on-goal in addition to the own goal.

Saint Xavier (5-9 overall/3-2 CCAC) returns to Chicago and continues its conference slate on Wednesday, October 15, with a game against Cardinal Stritch University (Wis.). The game is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field in Chicago.
