Bensenville, Ill. - Despite eight saves by junior goalkeeper Danielle Wagner (Worth, Ill./University of Illinois/Stagg), a free kick by Robert Morris College freshman midfielder Patricia Noguiera just two minutes and 36 seconds into overtime spelled doom for Saint Xavier University in a 1-0 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) loss Wednesday night at the Redmond Athletic Complex in Bensenville, Ill. The Cougars (6-6-1 overall/4-1 CCAC) had 11 shots-on-goal in Tuesday's game, but failed to get any shots past Eagles' sophomore keeper Jeannette Williams, who recorded all 11 saves.
Sophomore defender Nikki Gendron (Rockford, Ill./Boylan) and freshman forward Larissa Jondle (Lincoln, Neb./Saint Pius X) each finished with three shots-on-goal for SXU. Robert Morris had nine shots-on-goal in the victory. The game-winning goal was set up after the Cougars were whistled for a handball just outside the penalty area. Noguiera sent a shot past Wagner to the upper-right corner of the goal, but the officials waved off the goal due to a red card by RMC that took place just before the kick. Noguiera was then awarded another attempt at the free kick and again put it through to the back of the net for the 1-0 victory.
Saint Xavier (6-6-1 overall/4-1 CCAC) takes a week off before continuing its conference slate on Wednesday, October 15, at home against Cardinal Stritch University (Wis.). The game is scheduled for a 5 p.m. start at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field in Chicago.
