CHICAGO - A goal by sophomore forward Ariana Robles (West Chicago, Ill./College of DuPage) with 17:54 remaining left to play in regulation proved to be the difference, as No. 25 ranked Saint Xavier University defeated No. 20 Trinity Christian College (Ill.) in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) women's soccer action Friday afternoon at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field in Chicago. In addition, SXU head women's soccer coach recorded his 100th career victory (all at Saint Xavier) in his eighth season at the helm of the program.
The Cougars also got a stellar performance from freshman Danielle Wagner (Worth, Ill./Stagg) recording her third shutout of the season and finishing with three saves. Robles scored her game-winning goal off an assist from junior midfielder Natalie Liakopoulos (Oak Lawn, Ill./Oak Lawn). SXU outshot Trinity Christian, 10-7, in Friday's victory.
Saint Xavier (10-3 overall, 3-2 CCAC) continues conference play on Wednesday, October 4, facing Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) in a road match-up in Chicago. Start time for Wednesday's game is 7 p.m.
