Fort Wayne, Ind. - Led by 18 kills over two matches by senior middle blocker Chelsey Guay (Escanaba, Mich./Escanaba), the Saint Xavier University volleyball team split a pair of matches Friday at the University of Saint Francis (Ind.) in Fort Wayne, Ind. The Cougars (8-18 overall) dropped the first match to host Saint Francis (Ind.) in three straight games 9-25, 23-25, and 18-25, but bounced back to defeat Grace College (Ind.) in three games 31-29, 25-13, and 26-24.

In Friday's first match, SXU was led offensively by senior right side Laura Gullickson (Bourbonnais, Ill./Bishop McNamara) with 11 kills, while Guay recorded seven kills. Senior libero Jenna Guide (Orland Park, Ill./Sandburg) led the Cougars defensively with nine digs against USF. Guay posted 11 kills for Saint Xavier in its victory over Grace, while Gullickson and senior outside hitter Mallory Winkler (Chicago, Ill./Queen of Peace) chipped in six kills apiece. Freshman middle blocker Kim Scudder (Elmhurst, Ill./York) tallied five service aces in the second match for the Cougars.

Saint Xavier (8-18 overall/6-0 CCAC) gets back into its Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) schedule on Tuesday, October 7, with a home match against Trinity Christian College (Ill.). The match is slated for a 7 p.m. start.
