Rock Island, Ill. - Led by a 10th place individual finish by junior Lauren Dentzman (Lemont, Ill./Lemont), the No. 21 ranked Saint Xavier University women's cross country team picked up a third-place finish out of 28 collegiate teams Saturday at the 2008 Brissman-Lundeen Invitational hosted by Augustana College (Ill.) at the Saukie Golf Course in Rock Island, Ill. Dentzman finished the 6K event (6,000 meters) with a time of 23:12 en route to her 10th place finish. It marked the only meet on the 2008 schedule where the Cougars will run 6,000 meters with all the remaining meets posting 5,000-meter (5K) distances.
Junior Amy Poull (Oak Forest, Ill./Oak Forest) finished 20th overall with a time of 23:31, while freshman Alyssa Driscoll (Marion, Iowa/Xavier) captured 24th place at 23:43. Two Cougars finished with the same time in Saturday's meet. Freshman Jackie Ott (Island Lake, Ill./Marian Catholic Central) and junior Amanda Janosz (Orland Park, Ill./Sandburg) recorded a time of 24:10 and finished in 38th and 39th place, respectively.
"Considering that we ran a distance that we were not used to racing, I think this was a very productive meet," said SXU women's cross country/track coach Lisa Ebel. "This experience should help us prepare for the remainder of the season and I'm optimistic by what I've seen thus far. I am really looking forward to our meet at University of Wisconsin-Parkside in two weeks, since it is a fabulous course and will also be the site of this year's NAIA National Cross Country Championships."
Saint Xavier heads to Kenosha, Wis., on Saturday, October 11, to take part in the Lucian Rosa Parkside Invitational hosted by University of Wisconsin-Parkside (Wis.). The women's race is scheduled for a 10:30 a.m. start.Click here for individual results from the Brissman-Lundeen meet
