Findlay, Ohio - Saint Xavier University freshman kicker A.J. Nichols (Tinley Park, Ill./Mount Carmel) was named the Mid-States Football Association (MSFA) Mideast League Special Teams Player of the Week when the league released the honor early Monday afternoon. Nichols connected on all eight of his extra-point attempts in Saturday's 56-0 road victory over Trinity International University (Ill.) and also recorded two punts for an average of 36.5 yards per punt.
It was the second time in 2008 that SXU has garnered the weekly offensive award with junior wide receiver/punter Bill McKeon (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Catholic) earning special team recognition following the opening week. It is the third time this season the Cougars have had a MSFA Player of the Week in any category with senior quarterback Jeremy Zientek (Oak Lawn, Ill./Marist) earning offensive player of the week honors last week.
Saint Xavier (2-2 overall) returns home to prepare for its annual homecoming game set to take place on Saturday, October 4, against Walsh University (Ohio). The homecoming game is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start at Bruce R.
