CHICAGO - Behind four goals from sophomore forward Maya Swartz (Bethel, Ohio/Bethel), the Saint Xavier University women's soccer team picked up a 13-0 victory over visiting Calumet College of St. Joseph (Ind.) in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) action Saturday afternoon at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field in Chicago. The Cougars (4-5-1 overall/2-0 CCAC) led 6-0 at halftime and added seven more goals in the second half for the big victory.
In addition to Swartz, several other SXU players had a big game Saturday against the Crimson Wave. Freshman forward Lauren LaRoy (Orland Park, Ill./Marist) finished with two goals and an assist, while junior midfielder Kelsey Miller (Stillman Valley, Ill./Stillman Valley), sophomore forward Kelly Steinhaus (Lemont, Ill./Lemont), sophomore midfielder Carey Brown (Des Plaines, Ill./Maine West), and freshman midfielder Nancy Schueth (Lincoln, Neb./Saint Pius X) each posted a goal and an assist toward the winning effort. Senior midfielders Sarah Scigalski (Alsip, Ill./Mother McAuley) and Britney Kendzora (Lemont, Ill./Lemont) also recorded a goal apiece in the game along with freshman forward Larissa Jondle (Lincoln, Neb./Saint Pius X). Senior keepers Nikki Grant (Lemont, Ill./Lemont) and Kim Pavel (Crown Point, Ind./Crown Point) shared the shutout, but had no saves as CCSJ did not have any shots-on-goal.
Saint Xavier (4-5-1 overall/2-0 CCAC) takes to the road for its next CCAC match-up. The Cougars will face University of St. Francis (Ill.) on Tuesday, September 30, at 4 p.m. in Joliet, Ill.
