CHICAGO - An unassisted goal by senior defender Anne Meshes just over three minutes into overtime gave the visiting Robert Morris University women's soccer team a 3-2 victory over Saint Xavier University in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) opener for both teams Wednesday night at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field in Chicago. The Cougars (4-5-0 overall) tied the game, 2-2, late when senior forward Jessica Martinez (Hickory Hills, Ill./Stagg) scored off an assist from sophomore midfielder Joanna Janulis (Bolingbrook, Ill./Benet Academy) in the game's 80th minute. The Eagles were extremely aggressive offensively with 12 shots-on-goal in the game compared to just six by SXU.

Robert Morris struck early when senior forward Gifty Appiah scored inside the box on an assist from sophomore midfielder Patricia Nogueira in the eighth minute of regulation. Saint Xavier tied the game, 1-1, just over four minutes before halftime when freshman forward Samantha Formella (Homer Glen, Ill./Lockport) found the back of the net off a nice cross by sophomore midfielder Nancy Schueth (Lincoln, Neb./Saint Pius X). The Eagles took back the lead, 2-1, in the 59th minute when freshman defender Shannon Bennett scored off a corner kick by sophomore forward Natasha Carlton. Senior keeper Nikki Grant (Lemont, Ill./Lemont) finished the game with eight saves for SXU.
