Palos Heights, Ill. - Behind match-bests of 16 kills and four service aces by freshman outside hitter Kelly Knudsen (Oak Lawn, Ill./Oak Lawn Community), the Saint Xavier University volleyball team added another victory to its Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) record Tuesday evening defeating Trinity Christian College (Ill.) in four sets 27-25, 26-24, 16-25, 25-16 in Palos Heights, Ill. In addition, sophomore libero Erin Sebo (Downers Grove, Ill./St. Scholastica/Downers Grove North) played solid defensively for the Cougars with a match-high 18 digs.
The first two sets of the match finished tight with SXU having to hold on late in the sets to claim two-point victories, 27-25 and 26-24. The Cougars struggled offensively in the third set and had trouble generating quality attacks allowing the Trolls to pull out a 25-16 win. However, SXU closed things out in the fourth set hitting an impressive .593 attack percentage (18 kills, two errors) to claim the match. Sophomore setter Jaclyn Major (Lockport, Ill./Lockport Township) recorded 36 assists in Tuesday's match, while freshman outside hitter Kayla Mullaney (Elmhurst, Ill./York Community) tallied nine kills and 12 digs for the Cougars.
Saint Xavier (11-9 overall/2-0 CCAC) takes a week off before returning to its conference slate with a road match against Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) on Tuesday, September 29. The match is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start in Chicago.
