Normal, Ill. - A strong group of seniors paced the No. 16 ranked Saint Xavier University women's cross country team Friday evening at the Illinois Intercollegiate Championships hosted by Illinois State University at Weibring Golf Course in Normal, Ill. Amy Poull (Oak Forest, Ill./Oak Forest) led the Cougars across the finish line for the second straight week as SXU finished ninth out of the 31 teams competing at the meet, including a number of NCAA Division I teams. Poull finished the 5K (5,000 meters) event with a time of 18:57 claiming 27th place out of the 306 runners in attendance.
"This meet was loaded with talented runners and teams and I thought we performed very well," said Saint Xavier women's cross country coach Lisa Ebel. "When you take the seven NCAA Division I programs out of the results, our team finished fourth out of the 24 teams in the College Division. A number of our runners ran personal-best times and improved on their performances from last weekend, so I still believe that our best races are ahead of us."
Senior Lauren Dentzman (Lemont, Ill./Lemont) was next up for the Cougars taking 37th place with a time of 19:04. Senior Amanda Janosz (Orland Park, Ill./Sandburg) finished in 19:23 to take 52nd place, while junior Dana Eppley (Palos Heights, Ill./Shepard) earned 67th place for SXU with a 19:35 clocking.
