Findlay, Ohio - Saint Xavier University senior outside linebacker Shane Franken (Carol Stream, Ill./Driscoll Catholic) and sophomore kicker/punter Tom Lynch (Frankfort, Ill./Southern Illinois University/Joliet Junior College/Lincoln-Way East) were named the Mid-States Football Association (MSFA) Mideast League Defensive and Special Teams Players of the Week, respectively, when the league released the honors early Monday. Both had impressive performances this past Saturday in SXU's 58-20 Mideast League victory over Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.) at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field in Chicago.

Franken seemed to be all over the field for the Cougars Saturday finishing the game with two solo tackles, including a five-yard sack, as well as a pair of interceptions and a quarterback hurry. He totaled all of his defensive numbers in the first half as the starters were sidelined in the second half due to SXU's large halftime lead. Lynch tied a Saint Xavier University record by converting eight extra-point attempts in a single game. He also averaged 38.8 yards per punt on his four attempts on the day. The previous extra-points record was set last season by current sophomore kicker/punter A.J. Nichols (Tinley Park, Ill./Mount Carmel) in a 56-0 win over Trinity International University (Ill.) on September 27, 2008.

Saint Xavier (4-0 overall/2-0 MSFA) holds its annual Homecoming game on Saturday, September 26, hosting Quincy University (Ill.). Kickoff for the MSFA crossover game is 6 p.m. at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field in Chicago.
