Deerfield, Ill. - Behind a pair of goals by senior forward Zach Kekelik (Merrillville, Ind./Crown Point), the No. 13 ranked Saint Xavier University men's soccer team opened up its Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) slate with another victory and another shutout defeating Trinity International University (Ill.) Wednesday evening in Deerfield, Ill. The Cougars (5-1 overall) have now won five straight games and have not given up a goal since their season opener back on August 22. Senior Ian Pickett (Mokena, Ill./Providence Catholic) had another stellar outing in goal for SXU recording his fifth consecutive shutout.
The first goal for Kekelik came in the 24th minute when Kekelik took advantage of a nice pass from sophomore midfielder Al Palar (Zabrze, Poland/Plainfield Central) and tapped it into the back of the net to give his team a 1-0 advantage. Kekelik struck again for the Cougars just under 10 minutes into the second half when he scored an insurance goal off an assist by sophomore defender Dan Cross (Gravesend, England/Axton Chase).
Saint Xavier (5-1-0 overall/1-0-0 CCAC) returns to action on Saturday, September 19, with a non-conference game against Aquinas College (Mich.). The road match-up is scheduled for a 3 p.m. eastern start in Grand Rapids, Mich.
