Goshen, Ind. - Led by a goal and an assist by junior midfielder Jeff Hiltrop (Rockford, Ill./Colorado State-Pueblo/Boylan), the No. 12 ranked Saint Xavier University men's soccer team continued to roll with a 2-0 road win over Goshen College (Ind.) at the Goshen College Soccer Complex Wednesday night in Goshen, Ind. The victory is the fourth straight for the Cougars and also marks the fourth consecutive shutout for the SXU defense. Senior goalkeeper Ian Pickett (Mokena, Ill./Providence Catholic) finished the game with five saves for Saint Xavier.
The Cougars notched its first goal of the game right before the halftime break when sophomore midfielder Adrian Guzman (Chicago, Ill./De La Salle) got the ball through the defense and in front of the goal for Hiltrop, who volleyed the ball past the Goshen keeper to put his team up, 1-0, in the 44th minute. Sophomore midfielder Cody Culver (Roscoe, Ill./Harlem) added an insurance goal in the 67th minute when Hiltrop rolled a cross past the keeper that Culver was able to tap in for the score. SXU out-shot Goshen, 18-15, in the game and had seven shots-on-goal compared to just five by the Leafs.
Saint Xavier (4-1-0 overall) takes a week off before returning to action on Wednesday, September 16, with its Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) opener against Trinity International University (Ill.). The game is slated for a 4 p.m. start in Deerfield, Ill.
