CHICAGO - A goal by freshman forward Elysha Peele (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew) in the game's fifth minute made all the difference, as Saint Xavier University upset No. 20 ranked Ohio Dominican University (Ohio), 1-0, Saturday in NAIA women's soccer action at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field in Chicago. Peele had a straight on shot from about 30 yards out set up by a nice assist from junior forward Kelly Steinhaus (Lemont, Ill./Lemont). With the victory, SXU improve to 2-2-0 overall this season.
In goal for Saint Xavier, junior keeper Ashley Shugar (Lake Orion, Mich./Western Illinois University/Lake Orion) notched her first win and shutout as a Cougar by recording 11 saves. In fact, the differential of shots-on-goal heavily favored the visiting Panthers, who led the category, 11-4. ODU goalkeeper Aimee Simonet finished Saturday's game with three saves.
Saint Xavier (2-2-0 overall) heads to Fort Wayne, Ind., on Thursday, September 10, to take on non-conference NAIA foe University of Saint Francis (Ind.). The game is scheduled for a 3 p.m. start.
