CHICAGO - Another free kick by sophomore midfielder Al Palar (Zabrze, Poland/Plainfield Central) led to another Saint Xavier University men's soccer victory over Columbia College (Mo.) Saturday night on the campus of Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago. The Cougar defense recorded its second straight shutout as well with senior goalkeeper Ian Pickett (Mokena, Ill./Providence Catholic) leading the charge with six saves.
Palar notched his game-winning score in the game's 50th minute when he sent his free kick opportunity into the upper corner of the goal from 20 yards out. The Cougar defense then buckled down to limit Columbia's scoring chances for the remaining 39 minutes and preserve the victory.
Saint Xavier (2-1-0 overall) begins a five-game road trip on Thursday, September 3, heading to Michigan to take on non-conference NAIA foe Cornerstone University (Mich.). The game is scheduled for a 3 p.m. eastern time start.
