Grand Island, Neb. - With its season opener against Bethel College (Tenn.) just under a month away, the Saint Xavier University football team received a No. 17 ranking in the 2009 College Fanz NAIA Football Preseason Top 25 Poll when the rankings were released by the national sports network Wednesday morning. The College Fanz NAIA Football Preseason Top 25 Poll is also featured in the 2009 College Fanz NAIA Preview Magazine, the only preseason magazine completely dedicated to NAIA football. The magazine features team stories, player profiles, recruiting information, conference profiles, the NAIA Super Six and many more exclusive articles and photos.
Both the Mideast and Midwest Leagues of the Mid-States Football Association (MSFA) were well represented in the preseason poll. Fellow Mideast League member University of Saint Francis (Ind.) was ranked No. 4 overall, while Midwest League institutions Saint Ambrose University (No. 15), University of St. Francis-Ill. (No. 21) and McKendree University (No. 25) were also recognized. The Cougars will face off against University of St. Francis (Ill.) in its second game of the season on Thursday, September 3, at 7 p.m. in Joliet, Ill.

Saint Xavier begins its 2009 season at home with a Thursday night game against Bethel College (Tenn.). The opener is scheduled for Thursday, August 27, at 7 p.m. at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Stadium in Chicago.
