Edwardsville, Ill. - The Saint Xavier University women's track and field team wrapped up another successful outdoor season over the weekend when four of its national qualifiers competed at the 2009 NAIA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships at Ralph Korte Stadium in Edwardsville, Ill. The Cougars were paced by a 15th place finish (9:42.19) from their 4x800 meter relay team made up by freshman Jackie Ott (Island Lake, Ill./Marian Catholic Central), sophomore Dana Eppley (Palos Heights, Ill./Shepard), sophomore Jade Braden (Rocky River, Ohio/Rocky River) and junior Amanda Janosz (Orland Park, Ill./Sandburg).
SXU also got a solid performance out of its 4x100 meter relay team finishing in 24th place overall with a time of 49.27. The team consisted of all freshmen, including Ijeoma Ibe (Park Forest, Ill./Rich East), Jacina Sims (Park Forest, Ill./Rich East), Brittany Jackson (Elmhurt, Ill./Oak Park-River Forest) and Shalonda Young (Chicago, Ill./Crane Tech). Saint Xavier had two individual qualifiers compete as well with junior Amy Poull (Oak Forest, Ill./Oak Forest) claiming 27th place in the 5,000-meter run (5K) with a time of 18:58.01 and Ibe finishing 24th place in the long jump with a distance of 4.84 meters.
"This was a great finish to an equally great season," said SXU women's track and field coach Lisa Ebel. "I can't be more proud of this group. Although we are a young team, we keep setting the bar higher and higher. I'm already excited about next season and what this team will be able to accomplish."
