CHICAGO - Participating at the Penultimate Invitational hosted by the University of Chicago this past Saturday, the Saint Xavier University women's outdoor track team added two more qualifiers for the 2009 NAIA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships, which begin on May 21. The Cougars had junior Amy Poull (Oak Forest, Ill./Oak Forest) earn a "B" standard qualifying time of 18:24.35 in the 5K (5,000 meters), while freshman Ijeoma Ibe (Park Forest, Ill./Rich East) qualified in the long jump with a "B" standard distance of 5.44 meters.
"It was been a phenomenal season," said SXU women's track and field coach Lisa Ebel. "We have more national qualifiers this year than in any other season in our short history. I am really proud of how well we have performed and looking forward to seeing our athletes at Nationals."
The 2009 NAIA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships will be held from May 21-23 at Ralph Korte Stadium in Edwardsville, Ill. The Cougars now have three individual qualifiers as well as two relay teams that are eligible to participate at the national event next week.
