Joliet, Ill. - Saint Xavier University senior lefthander Kyle Zilis (Oak Forest, Ill./Marist) was named the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Pitcher of the Week for the week ending May 3 when the conference office released the weekly honor Tuesday. Zilis struck out 14 batters to open a key three-game series with Purdue University-North Central (Ind.) to earn the weekly recognition. It was the second time this season Zilis has received the award after claiming the first one of the season back on March 9 following a dominating performance against No. 13 ranked Embry-Riddle University (Fla.), where he struck out 14 batters as well.

Zilis went the nine-inning distance in the 3-1 victory on May 1, allowing only three hits, one run and one walk to pick up his seventh win of the season (7-2 overall). The victory proved to be huge as Saint Xavier took two of three games from PUNC to maintain a two-game lead over the Panthers for first place in the league with just three games to go in the regular season.

SXU (38-13 overall, 22-5 CCAC) wraps up its regular season slate Thursday against CCAC foe Trinity Christian College (Ill.). The nine-inning affair will take place at 4 p.m. at Standard Bank Stadium in Crestwood, Ill. With its first-place finish in the conference, the Cougars have already qualified for the NAIA Opening Round Tournament, which begins on Tuesday, May 12. Saint Xavier will learn its seeding in the tournament as well as which site it will be sent to on Friday, May 8.
