Champaign, Ill. - Saint Xavier University senior Roy Witty (Mount Greenwood, Ill./Marist) became the first Cougar in 2009 to qualify for the NAIA Outdooor Track and Field Championships with an outstanding seventh place finish among the 1106 runners in the Illinois Marathon held at the University of Illinois in Champaign, Ill. Witty, handled the 26.2 mile course in the time of 2:38.09, easily surpassing the 2:44.00 NAIA national qualifying standard. "I am very proud and excited about Roy's performance," stated SXU men's track coach Ed McAllister. "He handled the distance very well and I feel very optimistic about his chances at Nationals."
The Saint Xavier men's outdoor track team continues its season on Saturday, April 18, in Bourbonnais, Ill., as participants in the Mid-Season Invite hosted by Olivet Nazarene University. The meet is scheduled for an 11 a.m. start.
