Bensenville, Ill. - The Saint Xavier University baseball team trailed 2-1 after five innings, but rallied to win a key Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) game by a final score of 8-3 against Robert Morris College Friday afternoon at Geils Field in Bensenville, Ill. The Cougars (24-9 overall/13-3 CCAC) pounded out 12 hits and defensively turned three double plays in the contest to aid senior righthander Dan Miller's (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Catholic) victory on the mound. With the win, Miller improves his overall season record to 5-2.

Robert Morris jumped on SXU early getting two runs off Miller in the first frame. He rebounded to twirl six more innings of one-run baseball, scattering 10 hits with six strikeouts. Offensively, Saint Xavier got on the board in the fourth inning thanks to a RBI single by junior catcher Ken Tezak (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Catholic). Tezak finished the day 3-for-5 at the plate with two runs scored and two RBI. The Cougars took the lead thanks to a three-run sixth inning. Junior shortstop John O'Brien (Lake Zurich, Ill./Lake Zurich) led off the inning with a double and senior first baseman Matt Van Mill (Palos Heights, Ill./Bishop McNamara) reached on an RMC error. That set the stage for a two-run RBI double to right-center by junior left fielder Zach Clements (Berwyn, Ill./Morton). A pinch-hit single by junior Mark Siefert (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Catholic) plated Clements and gave the Cougars a 4-2 lead they would not relinquish. SXU tacked on four more runs in the eighth and ninth innings for insurance as sophomore relievers Joe Branigan (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield South) and Ken Hurta (Midlothian, Ill./Bremen) both pitched scoreless innings, respectively.

With today's victory, Saint Xavier improves its record to 24-9 overall and 13-2 in CCAC play. The Cougars also extended their current winning streak to 13 games. SXU continues both conference play and its series with Robert Morris with a 1 p.m. doubleheader Saturday. The two seven-inning games will be played on the Chicago campus of Saint Xavier University at Richard R. Ferrell Memorial Field.
