CHICAGO - Behind big days at the plate by senior third baseman Megen Friscia (Homer Glen, Ill./Lockport) and sophomore outfielder Rachel Krabbe (Beecher, Ill./Beecher), the Saint Xavier University softball team posted a pair of shutout victories over Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) foe Cardinal Stritch University (Wis.) Saturday at SXU Softball Field in Chicago. The Cougars (19-12 overall/10-2 CCAC) won the first game, 8-0, in five innings due to the eight-run NAIA mercy rule and then held on for a 1-0 win in the day's second game. It was SXU's ninth victory in its last 10 games.

Friscia could not be stopped offensively in Saturday's first game going a perfect 3-for-3 with a double, a home run and four RBI. Sophomore first baseman Courtney Murphy (Oak Forest, Ill./Oak Forest) went 2-for-3 in the game with a double, a run scored and a RBI, while Krabbe finished 1-for-2 with a double and a run scored. Junior Jalyn Shearer (Beecher, Ill./Beecher) was sensational on the mound for Saint Xavier throwing all five innings and allowing just one hit and no walks with two strikeouts to earn the shutout victory. She improves her win-loss record to 10-4 overall this season. The Cougars scored at least a run in each of the four innings they batted in the game.

The second game proved to be more of a pitcher's duel, but SXU came out on top behind a stellar outing by freshman Amie Brown (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Catholic). Brown threw all seven innings and held the Wolves to two hits and a walk with five strikeouts to pick up the 1-0 victory and improve to 7-5 overall on the year. Krabbe recorded the game's only RBI in the bottom of the fourth inning when she plated freshman shortstop Ashley Hunter (Metamora, Ill./Metamora) from second base on a RBI double to left field. CSU left runners on the bases in both the sixth and seventh innings, but SXU was able to leave them stranded and hold on for the one-run win.

Saint Xavier (19-12 overall/10-2 CCAC) takes a break from its conference slate to take on visiting Clarke College (Iowa) on Sunday, April 5. The doubleheader is scheduled for a 2 p.m. start Sunday at SXU Softball Field in Chicago.
