Women's Track & Field - Wed, Mar. 11, 2009
Johnson City, Tenn. - The Saint Xavier University women's track team put an exclamation point on a very successful indoor track season at the 2009 NAIA Indoor Track & Field Championships this past weekend in Johnson City, Tenn. The Cougars had three qualifiers compete at the national event, a relay team and two individuals. It was the most national qualifiers ever in a track season for SXU with the program currently in its third year. Junior Mandy Janosz (Orland Park, Ill./Sandburg), sophomore Jade Braden (Rocky River, Ohio/Rocky River), sophomore Dana Eppley (Palos Heights, Ill./Shepard) and freshman Jackie Ott (Island Lake, Ill./Marian Catholic Central) made up Saint Xavier's distance medley relay (DMR) team that finished 21st overall with a time of 12:53.01. Janosz also competed in the 3,000-meter run for the Cougars finishing 25th overall with a time of 10:51.71, while sophomore Annie Godette (Tinley Park, Ill./Tinley Park) claimed 13th place in the 3,000-meter race walk with a time of 17:53.85.
"This was a great way to end our indoor season and gives us a lot of momentum heading into our outdoor season," said SXU women's track coach Lisa Ebel. "Competing at nationals is always a tough experience, because you are going up against all the best competition at your level. Our qualifiers stepped up to the challenge and competed admirably."
