Joliet, Ill. - Saint Xavier University sophomore centerfielder Megan Paradzinski (Munster, Ind./Munster) and freshman pitcher Amie Brown (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Catholic) swept Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week honors, respectively, when the weekly awards were released by the conference office Tuesday. This was the first time this season that both weekly conference awards have been selected. It is also the first time that either of these Cougar players has earned the honor in their young collegiate careers.
Paradzinski batted .564 (22-for-39) over 11 of SXU's 12 games on the week. She also tallied 10 runs scored, two doubles and two stolen bases during the stretch. Brown was tough in her first week of collegiate competition going 2-2 overall over her four appearances on the mound. She threw 22.1 innings and allowed just 19 hits, five walks and three earned runs with 15 strikeouts. In her debut last Monday against Indiana Wesleyan University, she posted a big three-hit shutout victory (4-0) with four strikeouts.
Saint Xavier (6-6 overall) returns to action this weekend as participants in the Show Me Games in Springfield, Mo. The Cougars play three games on Friday, March 13, opening against William Jewell College (Mo.) at 10 a.m. SXU will wrap up play in the event on Saturday, March 14.
