Joliet, Ill. - For the ninth and final time this season, Saint Xavier University junior forward Erin Hannemann (Homer Glen, Ill./Providence Catholic) has earned the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Women's Basketball Division I Player of the Week honor after leading SXU to a pair of victories and a championship in the 2009 CCAC Women's Basketball Tournament for the week ending March 8. Hannemann averaged 23.0 points, 8.5 rebounds and 2.0 blocks and shot an impressive 63 percent (17-for-27) from the field on the week. She has won the weekly award nine of the 17 times it has been awarded by the conference this season.
In SXU's first game of the week, Hannemann posted 12 points and eight rebounds to help give her team a 70-51 victory over No. 5 seed Robert Morris College (Ill.) in the semifinals of the conference tournament. The 2009 CCAC Division I Women's Basketball Player of the Year then followed that effort with a game-best 34 points and nine rebounds in the championship against No. 2 seed University of St. Francis (Ill.) to give the Cougars the 86-69 win. It was SXU's fifth CCAC Tournament championship in the past seven seasons.
Saint Xavier (25-4 overall/9-1 CCAC) awaits its seed for the upcoming 2009 NAIA Women's Basketball Division I National Tournament in Jackson, Tenn. The 32-team event kicks off on Wednesday, March 18, and the Cougars will make their seventh consecutive appearance since 2003.
