Joliet, Ill. - Saint Xavier University had five of its players named to the 2009 All-Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Division I Men's Basketball Team when the conference office released the honors Wednesday. Senior forwards Rob Broughton (Elizabethtown, Ky./Gannon University) and Scott Campbell (Detroit, Mich./Waubonsee CC/MacKenzie) garnered All-CCAC First Team honors, while senior guard Nick Wirth (Belvidere, Ill./Belvidere), junior point guard Julian Scott (Country Club Hills, Ill./Hillcrest) and freshman point guard Ed Gilgenbach (Fond du Lac, Wis./Fond du Lac) earned honorable mention recognition. In addition, Gilgenbach was named the 2009 CCAC Co-Freshman of the Year.
Broughton currently leads SXU in both scoring and rebounding this season averaging 14.0 points and 6.3 rebounds through 31 games this season. Campbell has also been a force in both scoring and rebounding for the Cougars in 2008-09 posting 11.5 points and 5.4 rebounds per game. Scott suffered an injury and missed nearly a third of the season, but still averaged 12.0 points, 4.8 rebounds and 2.6 assists over 22 games. Wirth averaged 5.0 points, 1.8 assists and 1.8 steals per game, while Gilgenbach had a solid debut season for SXU averaging 8.0 points, 3.0 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 2.1 steals a game.
Saint Xavier (16-15 overall/4-6 CCAC) takes its No. 4 seed to the Gentile Center in Chicago on Thursday, March 5, to take on No. 1 seed and No. 9 ranked Robert Morris College (22-3 overall/10-0 CCAC) in the semifinals of the 2009 CCAC Division I Men's Basketball Tournament. The game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start.
