CHICAGO - Saint Xavier University football coach Mike Feminis recently added three more names to his 2009 roster with the signings of Wes Gastel, Corey Wennmacher and Raymond Buell. Gastel is a 5-10, 185-pound wide receiver out of Freeport High School in Freeport, Ill. Wennmacher, at 5-11 and 180 pounds, played quarterback at Belvidere North High School in Belvidere, Ill. Buell joins the Cougars on the defensive side of the ball as a 5-11, 200-pound linebacker out of Bishop McNamara High School in Kankakee, Ill.

"I should put Dan Appino (head varsity coach at Rockford Boylan High School in Rockford, Ill.) on our payroll, because we have signed four of the best players from the Rockford area over the past two years," said Feminis. "After we signed his son, Pat Appino (current SXU defensive tackle) and Mike Prosser (current SXU defensive end out of Rockton Honenagah High School in Rockton, Ill.) early last year, Dan told me the two best players his team would face last fall were Gastel and Wennmacher, so we started recruiting them right away.

"Gastel is very similar to Mike Maher (current SXU standout wide receiver) in size and athleticism, so we are expecting big things from him," continued Feminis. "Wennmacher is an exceptional athlete as well, who played quarterback at Belvidere North, but his future here will probably be at running back or receiver. Both are great young men and will be exciting to watch over the next four years. Buell will likely need to red-shirt as a freshman, but he has the potential to really help us down the road."
