CHICAGO - Behind seven kills from junior outside hitter Stephanie Galas (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way East), the Saint Xavier University volleyball team improved its Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) mark to a perfect 5-0 Tuesday night with a match win over visiting Judson University (Ill.) at the Shannon Center in Chicago. The Cougars (6-13 overall/5-0 CCAC) won the match in three straight games 25-11, 25-19, and 25-13.
In addition to Galas, senior outside hitter Mallory Winkler (Chicago, Ill./Queen of Peace) also played well offensively racking up six kills and a service ace. Freshman middle blocker Kim Scudder (Elmhurst, Ill./York) finished the match with five kills and six service aces. Defensively, the Cougars were led by senior libero Jenna Guide (Orland Park, Ill./Sandburg) with eight digs, while senior middle blocker Chelsey Guay (Escanaba, Mich./Escanaba) recorded three total blocks, a solo and two assisted.
Saint Xavier (6-13 overall/5-0 CCAC) takes a break from its conference slate to head to Fort Wayne, Ind., this weekend to participate in the Indiana Institute of Technology Volleyball Tournament. The Cougars open the event with a 3 p.m. (eastern) match Friday against Indiana Wesleyan University (Ind.), its first of four matches on the weekend.
