Findlay, Ohio - Saint Xavier University senior linebacker Rick King (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew) and sophomore kicker Shane Longest (Wilmington, Ill./Wilmington) were named the Mid-States Football Association (MSFA) Midwest League Defensive and Special Teams Players of the Week, respectively, when the honors were released by the conference office Monday. Both players played instrumental roles in the No. 14 ranked Cougars' 38-31 overtime win over No. 4 St. Ambrose University (Iowa) Saturday in Chicago.

King led the SXU defense Saturday with 13 total tackles (10 solos), including a tackle for a loss of three yards. The defense came up big in the overtime period. After Saint Xavier had taken a 38-31 lead, St. Ambrose was stopped a yard short of the first down marker on a two-yard reception on a fourth down and three situation.

In a game where every point was essential, Longest played his role perfectly connecting on all five of his extra-point attempts and making a 30-yard field goal in the second quarter of Saturday's win. Longest also booted five kickoffs for a total of 274 yards, including one into the endzone for a touchback.

Saint Xavier (6-2 overall/3-1 MSFA) heads to Deerfield, Ill., on Saturday, October 29, to face MSFA Midwest League rival Trinity International University (3-4 overall/2-2 MSFA). Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
