Findlay, Ohio - Saint Xavier University sophomore kicker Shane Longest (Wilmington, Ill./Wilmington) was named the Mid-States Football Association (MSFA) Midwest League Special Teams Players of the Week when the conference office released the honors Monday. Longest was instrumental in the No. 7 ranked Cougars' 48-20 regular-season finale win over University of St. Francis (Ill.) Saturday in Chicago.

As time expired in the first half, Longest connected on a 44-yard field goal to give SXU a 24-20 advantage heading into halftime. In the third quarter, he split the uprights again on a 20-yard attempt to put the Cougars ahead by 21 points, 41-20, and helped stifle any chance of a late rally by St. Francis. In addition, Longest also had four of his eight kickoffs taken as touchbacks, including three that went out the back of the endzone, which helped keep USF's special teams from making any big returns.

Saint Xavier (9-2 overall/6-1 MSFA) will host No. 4 University of Sioux Falls (S.D.) at noon on Saturday, November 19, for a first-round game in the 2005 NAIA Championship Series at SXU Stadium in Chicago. It is the first time that SXU has hosted a NAIA postseason game in the program's 13-year history.
