CHICAGO - Padraig O'Connor, a freshman center midfielder from Killarney Co. Kerry in Ireland, has recently signed a letter of intent to continue both his athletic and academic career at Saint Xavier University as a member of the Cougar men's soccer program. O'Connor, who played prep soccer at St. Brendan's College Killarney, will likely play at either the midfielder position or at defender next fall for SXU.
O'Connor was coached by Paul Kelliher at St. Brendan's College Killarney. He is the son of Padraig and Noreen O'Connor and plans to pursue a major in education this fall at Saint Xavier University. SXU men's soccer coach Ed Vucinic is excited about the versatility he will bring to the Cougar program.
"I am thrilled that things fell into place for Padraig to join us here at Saint Xavier University," said Vucinic. "He is a skilled player with the ability and versatility to help us in a variety of places on the field. More than anything, he has a tireless work ethic and passion for the game. Whereever he ends up, I'm sure his spirit will take an already hard-working team to another level of grit and determination."
