Joliet, Ill. - Under the direction of head coach Mike Dooley, the Saint Xavier University baseball team will take the No. 3 seed into the 2008 NAIA Region VII Baseball Tournament set to begin on Tuesday, May 6, at Silver Cross Field (directions)
in Joliet, Ill. The Cougars (33-18 overall) will take on No. 4 seed William Penn University (Iowa) at 7 p.m. Tuesday in first-round action. The six-team, double-elimination tourney will open Tuesday with an 11 a.m. game featuring No. 1 seed University of St. Francis (Ill.) against No. 6 seed Iowa Wesleyan University (Iowa). The other first-round match-up is set for 3 p.m. and will pit No. 2 seed St. Ambrose University (Iowa) against No. 5 seed Judson University (Ill.), the winner of last week's CCAC Third-Sixth Place Tournament.
All games in the tournament will be played at Silver Cross Field, weather permitting, except for game No. 4 Wednesday, which will be played at nearby Gillespie Field in Joliet. Admission prices for the region tournament are $5 for adults and $3 for students. The winner of the regional tournament will represent Region VII in next week's Region VII/Region VIII Super Regional series, a best-of-three series that gives the winner an automatic berth in the 2008 NAIA World Series.
