CHICAGO - Jim Pipolo, a senior catcher at Sandburg High School in Orland Park, Ill., and Tom Simek, a senior shortstop and pitcher at St. Laurence High School in Burbank, Ill., have both recently signed letters of intent to continue both their athletic and academic careers at Saint Xavier University as members of the Cougar baseball program. Pipolo is a native of Orland Park, while Simek hails from Chicago.

Pipolo is coached by Doug Sutor for the Eagles of Sandburg High School. He plans to study business administration next fall at Saint Xavier University. Simek is coached by Pete Lotus for the Vikings of St. Laurence High School. He plans to study business next year at SXU.

"Both of these guys have a ton of potential and should have very successful collegiate careers," said SXU baseball coach Mike Dooley. "Pipolo could make an immediate impact for our team at the catcher position, while Simek will likely see playing time both in the infield and on the mound next season."
