CHICAGO - Despite three hits apiece by junior centerfielder Don Skelly (Oak Lawn, Ill./Marist) and sophomore leftfielder Tony Testin (Shorewood, Ill./Joliet Catholic), the Saint Xavier University baseball team scored all four of its runs in the bottom of the seventh and could not rally from an early 8-0 deficit to fall, 8-4, to No. 14 University of St. Francis (Ill.) Tuesday at Richard R. Ferrell Memorial Field in Chicago. The Cougars fall to 28-17 overall and 10-4 in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conferencc (CCAC) standings with the loss, while the Fighting Saints improve to 35-7 overall and increase their lead atop the league standings at 15-1.

Skelly went 3-for-5 at the plate and had a RBI single to left field in the seventh inning that sparked the offense. Testin followed that at-bat with a three-RBI double to the gap in left-centerfield to cut the 8-0 lead for St. Francis in half. However, SXU managed just two hits the rest of the way, both singles, and the score remained the same over the final two innings. Junior righthander Dan Miller (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Catholic) got the start and threw five-and-two-thirds innings for the Cougars. Miller fell to 5-3 overall this season and allowed 12 hits, eight runs (seven earned), and a walk with three strikeouts. Junior rightie Bryant Myjak (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew) threw well over the remainder of the game allowing just three hits and no runs or walks with one strikeout. Junior pitcher Erik Panek threw the entire game for the Fighting Saints allowing 11 hits, four runs (all earned) and a walk with eight strikeouts over nine innings.

Saint Xavier (28-17 overall/10-4 CCAC) continues its home stand by hosting CCAC foe Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.) on Wednesday, April 23, at Richard R. Ferrell Memorial Field. The game is scheduled for a 3 p.m. start.
