Joliet, Ill. - Saint Xavier University sophomore shortstop John O'Brien (Lake Zurich, Ill./Lake Zurich) was named both the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) and NAIA Region VII Baseball Player of the Week Tuesday for his stellar performance over SXU's seven-game stretch last week. O'Brien helped lead the Cougars to a 6-1 record on the week, which included five CCAC victories, and helped spark an offensive team surge that posted 105 runs over just seven games, a 15 runs per game average.

Hitting an impressive .600 (15-for-25) over the stretch, O'Brien racked up seven extra-base hits, including four doubles and two home runs. He also scored 17 runs, posted 20 RBI, and nabbed three stolen bases on the week. O'Brien's slugging percentage last week was a stellar 1.080. It is the first time this season that SXU has received CCAC or Region VII Player of the Week honors, but Cougars' junior righthander James Williams (Steger, Ill./South Suburban CC/Bloom) was named the CCAC and Region VII Pitcher of the Week back on March 25.

Saint Xavier (28-16 overall/10-3 CCAC) faces league-leading and No. 14 ranked University of St. Francis (Ill.) Tuesday at Richard R. Ferrell Memorial Field in Chicago. The game is scheduled for a 3:30 p.m. start.
