CHICAGO - Sparked by a RBI single by sophomore leftfielder Tony Testin (Shorewood, Ill./Joliet Catholic), the Saint Xavier University baseball team rattled off seven runs in the top of the ninth to rally from a 6-3 deficit and defeat Calumet College of St. Joseph (Ind.), 10-6, in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) action Monday night at Calumet High School in Gary, Ind. The Cougars (28-16 overall/10-3 CCAC) also got big hits in the inning from sophomore first baseman Mark Siefert (Crest Hill, Ill./Joliet Catholic), who hit a three-RBI double, and sophomore designated hitter Ken Tezak (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Catholic), who crushed a three-run homer. The victory marked the seventh straight for SXU and the 10th consecutive game the team has posted at least 10 runs.

Tezak went 2-for-5 with a home run, a run scored, and three RBI, while Siefert finished the game 1-for-4 with a double and three RBI. Sophomore rightfielder Zach Clements (Berwyn, Ill./Morton) also had two hits Monday and recorded two runs scored for Saint Xavier. Senior righthander Joe Zotto (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew) got the win throwing two-and-two-thirds innings of relief for freshman starter Joe Branigan (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield South). Zotto allowed four hits, two runs (one earned), and a walk with three strikeouts to improve to 1-3 overall on the season. Branigan pitched the first five-and-a-third innings for the Cougars and allowed two hits, four runs (three earned), and three walks with three strikeouts as well. Sophomore leftie Jayson Koehn (Beecher, Ill./Beecher) put Calumet College down 1-2-3 in the ninth with two strikeouts.

Saint Xavier (28-16 overall/10-3 CCAC) faces a big challenge Tuesday hosting league-leading and No. 14 ranked University of St. Francis (Ill.) at Richard R. Ferrell Memorial Field in Chicago. The game is scheduled for a 3:30 p.m. start.
