CHICAGO - Scoring a remarkable 74 runs over five games, the Saint Xavier University baseball team cruised to five Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) victories over the weekend sweeping doubleheaders from Robert Morris College (Ill.) Friday and Trinity International University (Ill.) Saturday and then concluding the stretch with a 21-3 win over Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) Sunday afternoon. In fact, the SXU offense has been on a tear over the past week scoring an unbelievable 105 runs in its last seven games since resuming play on Wednesday, April 16.
In Friday's doubleheader against Robert Morris, the Cougars defeated the Eagles, 17-0, in game one scoring nine runs in the final inning. Saint Xavier ended game two in five innings, 13-1, per the NAIA slaughter rule behind a big showing at the plate by sophomore second baseman Matt Mueller (Burbank, Ill./Reavis), who finished 3-for-3 with two runs scored and four RBI. Sophomore designated hitter Mark Siefert (Crest Hill, Ill./Joliet Catholic) racked up three hits in the first game with three runs scored and a RBI, while sophomore shortstop John O'Brien (Lake Zurich, Ill./Lake Zurich) went 1-for-3 with three runs scored and three RBI. Junior righthander Dan Miller (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Catholic) got the shutout victory in game one pitching all seven innings and allowing just five hits and no walks with three strikeouts. Freshman rightie Jeff Dobie (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard South) posted the game two win throwing all five innings and giving up just three hits, a run (earned), and a walk with one strikeout.
Saturday's doubleheader was more of the same as SXU won big with an 11-4 victory in the day's first game and followed it with a 12-1 decision in the nightcap. O'Brien had a huge day at the plate going 5-for-8 with a homer, six runs scored, and six RBI, while sophomore rightfielder Zach Clements (Berwyn, Ill./Morton) was tough as well going 5-for-7 with a home run, seven runs scored, and two RBI. Freshman third baseman Austin Lehmann (Shorewood, Ill./Minooka) also blasted a solo homer in Saturday's first game. Junior righthander Bryant Myjak (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew) notched the game one victory pitching the first five innings and allowing five hits, three runs (all earned) and two walks with two strikeouts. Junior rightie James Williams (Steger, Ill./South Suburban/Bloom) earned the second win of the day throwing the first six innings of game two and giving up just three hits, one run (earned), and three walks with one strikeout.

Sophomore third baseman Ken Tezak (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Catholic) was also hot at the plate going 3-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBI, while junior centerfielder Don Skelly (Oak Lawn, Ill./Marist) went 2-for-4 with a double, three runs scored, and three RBI. Junior righthander Rick Kehoe (Palos Heights, Ill./Richards) secured the victory on the mound throwing all seven innings and allowing nine hits, three runs (two earned), and two walks with five strikeouts.
Saint Xavier (27-16 overall/9-3 CCAC) continues its conference slate on Monday, April 21, with a make-up game against Calumet College of St. Joseph (Ind.) in Whiting, Ind. The game is scheduled for a 3 p.m. start.
