Columbia, Ky. - Despite five saves by junior goalkeeper Ian Pickett (Mokena, Ill./Providence Catholic), the Saint Xavier University men's soccer team could not overcome a 2-0 halftime deficit and fell, 3-1, in its season opener Saturday night against No. 6 ranked Lindsey Wilson College (Ky.) in Columbia, Ky. Sophomore forward Ernad Dzananovic (Loves Park, Ill./Harlem) notched SXU's lone goal of the game when he found the back of the net in the game's 70th minute.
Lindsey Wilson scored two goals within a five-minute span in the first half scoring the game's first goal in the 24th minute and then taking a 2-0 lead in the 29th minute. Leading 2-0 at the half, the Blue Raiders took a 3-0 lead in the 61st minute of play. Dzananovic cut into the lead with his goal in the 70th minute off an assist by senior midfielder Agustin Herrera (Chicago Heights, Ill./Bloom). The Cougars finished the game with two shots on goal compared to eight by Lindsey Wilson College.
Saint Xavier (0-1 overall) returns to action on Sunday, August 31, to face NCAA Division II foe Lewis University (Ill.). The game will start at 12 p.m. in Romeoville, Ill.
