Women's Soccer - Wed, Aug. 20, 2008
Kansas City, Mo. - Just nine months after earning the program's first-ever quarterfinals berth in the NAIA Women's Soccer National Championships, the Saint Xavier University women's soccer team will carry a No. 9 national ranking into the 2008 campaign after the NAIA national office released its annual preseason poll late Tuesday. Last season, the Cougars opened up with a No. 6 preseason ranking, the highest ever preseason rank for the 12-year program, now under the direction of first-year head coach Jeremy Ekeler.
SXU finished the 2007 season with a mark of 19-4-2 overall and won the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) regular season title as well as the NAIA Region VII Tournament. SXU opens its fall slate on Saturday, August 30, as participants in the two-day Cardinal Stritch University (Wis.) Invitational. The Cougars will take on Lindenwood University (Mo.) at 4 p.m. in Milwaukee.
