Westville, Ind. - Sophomore rightfielder Zach Clements (Berwyn, Ill./Morton) kept his smoking bat on fire Wednesday leading the Saint Xavier University baseball team to a big 10-4 victory over Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) foe Purdue University-North Central (Ind.) in Westville, Ind. Clements led the offense with four hits, including a double, and finished the game with two RBI as well. SXU now sits at 4-2 in the conference standings and improves to 21-15 overall with the win.
Sophomore first baseman Mark Siefert (Crest Hill, Ill./Joliet Catholic) had a couple of big hits in the ballgame with a two-run homer and a double. In addition, junior designated hitter Matt Van Mill (Palos Heights, Ill./Bishop McNamara) had two hits and two RBI, while sophomore catcher Ken Tezak (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Catholic) also had two hits with a RBI double. Junior righthander Rick Kehoe (Palos Heights, Ill./Richards) got the victory on the mound throwing seven innings and allowing just three earned runs with five strikeouts. He is now 3-2 on the season. Sophomore leftie Jayson Koehn (Beecher, Ill./Beecher) pitched the final two innings and posted two strikeouts with no hits or runs.
Saint Xavier (21-15 overall/4-2 CCAC) heads to Joliet, Ill., on Thursday, April 10, to take on league-leading and No. 13 ranked University of St. Francis (Ill.). The game is scheduled for a 3 p.m. start.
